Display

  1. Should I apply a tempered screen glass protector or just a thin plastic protector on my laptop's display?

    Absolutely not.
If you do that, when it comes the time to remove the dirty protector, removing it can permanently damage your display.
Third party shops will simply say they won't take any risk if changing the protective cover kills your display.

Note: I am not completely oblivious and yes I understand the need to keep the display clean and make it last long, you can absolutely do that with Micro-fibre cloth and distilled water.

  2. Should I use Keyboard foggy plastic cover on laptop?

    NO.
Now, I understand that you want to save your display having the keyboard marks, once again just as I said before, use some micro-fibre cloth to clean your display once in a while. And if you have to keep something between the keyboard and the display, use the thin brown stuff that came with your laptop, if you have lost it, you can buy another such very thin microfibre material if you're storing for a long time.

  3. How do I check if I have a lot of IPS backlight bleed or not?

    • IPS Glow which is okay
Move your head from side to side when the display is dark, does the display seem to move with your head? If yes, it's IPS Glow which is inherent in all IPS displays and nothing can be done.
    • IPS Bleed which stays at one place even when you move from head from side to side.
      To write....

  4. My display has suddenly got greenish hue on the edges.

Just use laptop normally, it will go away.

Power/Electricity/Health and Safety Concerns

  1. Do I need a voltage stabilizer for my laptop? My adapter says >8A but I can't find a stabilizer rated above 4A?

Ans.  No, you don't need a voltage stabilizer for your laptop. If you're concerned about saving your adapter from high/low voltages or surges during thunderstorm and it's your house, it's better to get these two:

If it's not your home and you just want a surge protector only to save against high power spikes, Belkin and Honeywell are two good brands you can buy extension boards with surge protectors built in from amazon (I have selected good seller and these brands already in the link) BUT THESE SURGE PROTECTOR WON'T WORK IF YOUR HOUSE IS NOT GROUNDED, you know the third pin that most Indian Technicians don't even bother connecting to the ground and those who do connect, connect it to a tubewell so anyone who tries to use the tubewell gets a nasty shock? Yes, that one. I made a video showcasing its importance with a POC. Earthing Lagao, mic mein se motorcycle ka awaaz hatao and Laptop current maar raha tha, earthing laga diye sahi ho gaya.

    Confusion about high A draw:

Now, about the confusion of the 8A. If you check your adaptor it will say INPUT IS 100V-220V @3.5A and its OUTPUT as 20V @11A or higher. You are not to concern yourself with the output of the adaptor for this discussion. That is what the adaptor's job is. You have to care about its input part which is 100-220V @ 3.5A and if you're in India where we get 220V, for 330W, you get 330/220 i.e. 1.5A of draw only AND NOT 8+Amps. Even in countries with 100V it will be 330W/100V i.e. 3.3A draw only.

Why you don't need a stabilizer:

For laptops, and especially high wattage draw gaming laptop adapters, these are designed to handle wide range of voltages (100V to 240V) and comes with built-in protection for over/under voltage. This is one of the reasons that these adaptors are so heavy.

  2. My laptop has a metal body and it's giving me an electrical shock

    YOUR HOUSE IS NOT GROUNDED.
You know the third pin that most Indian Technicians don't even bother connecting to the ground and those who do connect, connect it to a tubewell so anyone who tries to use the tubewell gets a nasty shock? Yes, that one.
I made a video showcasing its importance with a POC. .

  3. Should I use my laptop in a dark room like I see others using?

Do your best to use laptop in a well lit room, even at night for health concerns.
