Intro:

These laptops during sale go for really cheap during sales so much so that many people are really tempted to get it and people who have light use are usually fine but there are people who get it instead of a proper gaming laptop in the same price point thinking they might be able to get away with stuff and also since I cover India with harsher climate, these machines can break down early. So I thought I will make a post for people who are still considering it, not to stop you from getting a Macbook but to actually set your expectations properly.

It's on my radar to buy one of these Macbooks myself and test what softwares actually run on these machines as the information online is scarce and maybe see if it's easier for my parents to get into computing if it's a Mac, two very important question, will require a lot of extra money, but I will do it once I do have some spare.

Why to get 8/256 Macbook in the first place.

The Original Post I made on the Indian Channel

Here's the post I made actually after thinking a lot about it:

For those considering Macbook M1/M2 a very important caution:

Even after reading what's written below, you still want to buy a Mac: Buy from Apple directly and buy at least 16/512 variant. Optional is Apple Care but it seems like a scam just reading it, so check it out yourself first or talk to the people in the offline official store first.

Got very confused and couldn't bring myself to just make a pro video on this without disregarding the negatives about it:

Cons:
1) Software and Virtualization even for CSE:
Not all softwares will work on this machine even through virtualization(parallel or whatever the hell it's called). Virtualization uses a lot more RAM. You are already limited by RAM going with 8GB and hence just assuming you can just use Windows inside a Virtual environment isn't the answer.
Many fresh CSE students don't take into account the high RAM usage of any Virtualization. The one reason I recommend Gaming Laptops to these students is that they will increase RAM as and when necessary and they do, most go with 32GBs and not even 16GBs.
Another thing is running Docker containers, same deal as virtualization.

2) Many apps are natively built for Windows:
Ask your seniors(final year, before that are just idiots) or alumni and I suspect if you are in the core branches (Civil, Electrical or Mechanical) you might not be able to run many applications.
Civil Engineering Note: I remember using one soil application badly built for Windows only but we used that mainly for our project in the final year. So yes, talk to them. Civil I can already tell you, you need Windows. Many applications which interact with LiDAR sensors and a bunch of other stuff are built for Windows only.

3) Parts are freaking expensive:
Every little thing in this laptop is expensive. You get a Windows laptop, if screen breaks, you can get it fixed for a few thousand, here it's like half of the device cost. That's just one thing, there are many more which I covered here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpGJFjRSwT0
This is also the reason when anyone contacts me for Macbooks, I send this line: "
The thing with Apple is quite simple. If something breaks, you will have to buy new. And you need to buy everything that you have to use on it.
"

4) LOL ADP:
Their ADP only brings down the cost of replacement components and doesn't even cover everything apart from being expensive.

5) Dead/Defective from online:
Just read the negative reviews. The process is troublesome after you get the device and even yesterday the flipkart seller for the M2 has put "No Returns Applicable?" and a hidden "0 Days Replacement Policy" on the M2 Macbook. Amazon is better by writing seven day Service Center replacement but I assume it's going to be the same thing again.
Someone wrote this but I yet have to confirm this: "Apple is not responsible for the products sold by any third party website."

6) Not long-term:
Display cable issue is quite common on these machines along with Logic Board(the whole motherboard including SSD and RAM in this beautifully soldered machine) just fries itself. I am suspecting it is due to the harsher climate of India but it could be these machines themselves.
Yes, if your unit remains fine it can last for years, that is in face correct but that's a big IF

Neutral:
1) 8GB RAM might be okay for very light usage:
Recently did a livestream where I was trying to determine if the SSD wears off quickly due to swap(use of SSD in place of RAM in case of high RAM usage) but I couldn't find conclusive proof so maybe in very light usage, the 8GB RAM might be enough.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbwPijWhFt8

Pros:
Good display, speakers, battery life, GPU performance and CPU performance (If not limited by RAM).
Lightweight and great battery life means no need to worry about charger and you can take it outside quite frequently.
