@-SHIn-- told me about Hollow Knight's unofficial Android port
I didn't play indie games at all before this on PC but never really thought about playing it on my phone.
I installed Hollow Knight on my phone and 14 hours of gameplay later on this and 5+ hours of gameplay of Stardew Valley on my tablet my fingers started to hurt a lot and especially Hollow Knight was going to become even crazier with all the controllers. So I thought of getting tactile and I stated looking into a phone controller, the good one that I saw was Rs. 3000
Just before I was about to order it however, I thought let's get some cheap handheld console for a day's train journey because the best thing that I figured out to be done on the train was gaming and I accidentally came across the listing for R36S Gaming console on Flipkart for something around Rs.4000:
While I was going through the reviews I came across a comment talking about the seller HGWorld and so I searched for their listing and found that they sell it slightly cheaper if you buy from them directly:
There wasn't a lot of recent reviews about them but a few were alright, not the best, not the worst and I thought let's order it and we will see. Had recently made some money from testing games so it didn't feel like a bad purchase.
I saw some other handheld console and really liked the cheap 500 consoles and other from there but I was more interested in playing a bit more than just 8 or 16 bit games so I stuck to R36S.
However I also but then I also saw the R46S.
Internally it looked like the same thing but the form factor was which I preferred over the vertical design as with that the fingers might still pain in longer sessions.. Also it had HDMI out on it and that was more than enough for me and hence I ordered the R46S Console. There have been some complications with the console which I will cover in the review of it and link it here. But the point is...
I have enjoyed gaming on this a lot. I already completed two games on it and I intend to complete a lot more.
And this form factor really really suits indie games and retro games. Sadly I can't play Hollow Knight on this but that game really requires a proper controller or PC to play properly anyways due to the micro-movements. However I can still play Stardew Valley on this BUT I still enjoy even the normal games on this.
6" is enough for me. 12" is too big.
Anything more and it isn't portable for me anymore. In the time I had this R46S console I was always taking it in my other pocket because it's small. If I had a Steamdeck 12" , ROG ally 11" or a Legion Go 9" I would never be actually to take it outside.
This is also the reason I didn't consider a Horizontal Android Gamepad (Too big) or a Vertical separate gamepad or a clip or a gamepad with clip holder (Too wobbly and too big).
It's important for a handheld like this to be portable for me. If I can take out a big handheld, I might as well sit on the computer and play properly. However, in the name of research I promise to buy one later.
